Maxima lines are celebrating a milestone few companies in the fishing business can claim – a 100th anniversary.

The company was founded in 1920 by Max Gottlieb Meinel, in Markneukirchen, Germany, initially producing musical strings, tennis racket strings and fishing lines. In 1949, the company moved to Bavaria, Germany, at which time the founder’s son, Erhard Max Meinel, and grandson, Erhard Max Meinel Jr., took over management of the business.

In the early 1950s, Erhard Max Jr. focused his attention on fishing line production. The company expanded to include exports to over 80 countries worldwide. When Erhard Max Jr. passed away in 1981, his wife, Kaethe, assumed the leadership of Maxima and today her daughter, Marion Meinel, is the fourth generation to manage and lead the company.
Today, Maxima is recognized around the world for its superior quality in fishing lines. No longer in the musical string or racket sport string businesses, they are completely focused on fishing lines, and are especially popular in the coastal and fly-fishing markets that demand lines with higher abrasion resistance and exceptional knot strength qualities.
