Gillian Steele is a multi-species and multi-style angler. Being well versed in both gear and fly angling, Gill has dabbled in many of BC’s diverse fisheries. Gill has been a gear angler for over 20 years, targeting both salmon and steelhead in rivers throughout the Lower Mainland. Her affinity for numerous types of angling can be credited to her father, Dave Steele, owner of Highwater Tackle in North Vancouver. When fall came around, it wasn’t uncommon for sick notes to be written and a miraculous ‘cure’ being attributed to a weekday spent float-fishing for salmon in the Fraser Valley. Gill traces much of her experience and foundational understanding to those early days on the water chasing salmon with an Abu Garcia 6500. A start in gear fishing lent itself to a lifetime in reading water and understanding where fish sit, a skill used in all her angling pursuits. You can always find Gill on the water with a blonde ponytail peeking out of her hat, eyes focused on the water and a big grin on her face.
