Wild Game Sloppy Joes

A quick and delicious dinner for summer nights

By Raeanne O’Meara

There is a time and a place for spending your afternoon in the kitchen meticulously prepping and cooking a wild game meal. The middle of summer, when there are endless outdoor activities to take part in (and the heat indoors can get almost unbearable), is neither the time nor the place for such meals.

Sloppy joes fit the bill for this – minimal ingredients, pretty much everyone enjoys them and they go from the pan to the plate in under 20 minutes! Serve on a fluffy bun.

Ingredients

1 pound ground wild game

1/2 cup tomato sauce

3 tbsp ketchup

1 tbsp onion powder

2 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

In a frying pan, heat up a couple tablespoons of oil over medium heat. Cook the ground wild game until it is just browned – don’t dry it out too much. Add in the tomato sauce, ketchup and spices. Stir thoroughly and cook until the tomato mixture is heated up.

Scoop out a healthy amount onto a buttered bun and enjoy. Be sure to have some napkins on hand, things can get messy!
