Ucluelet Early Season Fishing Report

This weeks Conditions

The early season spring fishery are producing nice Chinook Salmon between 8 to 25 lbs. Quality fish.

So far the best Salmon fishing has been close to Ucluelet so not a big run. Fishing the Outside edge of Barkley Sound, Great Bear and out as far as three miles offshore.

The fish are hunkering right on the bottom, so the gear varies between 110-150 feet deep depending on bottom depth. Using Spoons with Flashers or Anchovies with Flashers.  Fish are biting on the tides but morning has been by far best.

Taking a break from trolling for Salmon to jig for some Lings using Budzildas or other weighted jigs is also producing good Ling Cod fishing. This is normal in the early season as well. Ling Cod range from 7-15 pounds. Beautiful White fish.

Watch for halibut to heat up in the coming weeks!
